Bio
Heidi Van Horne has spent a lifetime telling stories and documenting and capturing the world around her, with a career both in front of and behind the camera that began in Texas over 30 years ago. Starting with 35mm stills on a plastic LeClic camera and filming videos of her friendsâ skate tricks on video 8 camcorders, format has mattered less than intent and vision, and an ability to tell a story and create with what you have on hand were skills she learned early on.
Most known for her work writing about classic cars as a longtime columnist for the Houston Chronicle, as an actress on television and in films, and as a retro pinup model, the elements of her life often blend into her art, with a complicated relationship with nostalgia being an oft recurring theme.
Her photography has been published alongside hundreds of her articles in the Houston Chronicle, syndicated nationwide in 14 markets, on the cover of European hot rod magazines Kustom (FR) and Chop and Roll (IT), pinup publication Retrokitten, in the pages of Garage Magazine, Traditional Rod & Kulture, Car Kulture Deluxe & Ol' Skool Rodz, on countless websites, and on the pages of her new publication, Jean, a modern zine.
Her award-winning experimental short film, "broken home movies", has been seen at festivals and on screen at renowned venues such as the Austin Film Society Theater as part of the Women in Film/TV Austin Member Showcase, the Austin Studio Tours, Film & Friends at Austin School of Film, After Dark Analog Night, the Made in Austin film event and at the historic DeLuxe Theater in Houston's Historic Fifth Ward.
